Installing the FO Plug-in

This topic describes how to install the Idiom FO plug-in to the DITA Open Toolkit, to allow enhanced PDF generation through the PDF2 transtype.

Use this procedure if you want to generate enhanced PDF output (that is, a higher quality output than provided by the standard DITA OT PDF transformation) using WinANT and DITA OT versions prior to version 1.5.

  1. From the Tools menu, select Install Plug-in. The WinANT DITA OT Plug-ins dialog will display, showing the plug-ins shipped with WinANT, with those already installed marked with a greyed checkbox.
  2. Select the fo (sourceforge) checkbox, and click OK. The plug-in installation process will begin, and when complete, a confirmation message will display.
  3. Click OK to acknowledge the confirmation message.
  4. If you haven't already installed RenderX XEP, download the program from http://www.renderx.com/download/personal.html and install it.
  5. On WinANT's DITA OT tab, specify the RenderX XEP program location by browsing for the installation folder in the RenderX Location field. A message will display, asking if you want to update the FO plug-in's build.xml file with the new RenderX location.
  6. Click Yes. A confirmation message will display when the build.xml file has been updated.
  7. On the DITA OT tab, specify the location of the saxon.jar file by browsing for the saxon.jar file in the Saxon Location field. If you have previously installed Saxon, choose the installation folder. If you haven't specifically installed Saxon, you should use the saxon.jar that is included with XEP, by browsing to the XEP folder, then locating saxon.jar in the lib sub-folder. A message will display, asking if you want to update the FO plug-in's build.xml file with the new Saxon location.
  8. Click Yes. A confirmation message will display when the build.xml file has been updated.
The PDF2 transtype can now be used on the Main tab.
